Static vs. Dynamic QR Codes
A static QR code has your URL baked into the pattern of squares. A phone reads the squares, gets your URL, and goes there. Nobody is in between.
A dynamic QR code points at a middleman. The squares hold a short link on the QR company's servers, and that server forwards the phone on to your URL. That is how they track scans, and it is how they charge you monthly.
The catch: if the free trial ends, the plan lapses, or the company shuts down, the redirect stops. Every printed copy of that code is dead, and you can't fix it without reprinting.
CleanQR only makes static codes. Your QR code points directly to your URL. It works for as long as your URL works, whether or not we're still around. We can't hold your link hostage because we never had it.
The Trade-Off
A static code can't be edited after you make it. The URL is in the squares. If you want the code to go somewhere else, you make a new code.
The easy way around this: point the code at a page you control, like your own website or a link page. Change what's on that page whenever you like. The QR code stays the same.
